Everyone comes to CrossFit Novem for a different reason—to get stronger, fitter, reduce stress, gain confidence, and even create new friendships. These reasons are what inspires us and our members to make fitness a way of life. We will train you safely and properly. What we’re doing at Novem isn’t new, but how we’re executing this particular brand of fitness is.

 

We’ve curated a healthy, vibrant community at CrossFit Novem that’s about way more than burpees and box jumps. Our programs are as varied as our members—we offer classes in CrossFit, Bootcamp, and the olympic lifting Barbell Club. Our coaches have certification from CrossFit HQ and other fitness disciplines.

Giulia Umile

Giulia Umile

In West Philadelphia, born and raised, Giulia really did spend most of her days on the playground. An athlete from a young age (at 3, she was the only one on her tee-ball team who ran to 1st base and not 3rd after a hit!), she played any sport she could- basketball, baseball, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse. Giulia did try gymnastics once, but after her first class the instructor told her mom that she should stick to “ball sports”. After a successful high school athletic career, Giulia attended Susquehanna University.  A 4-year starter on the lacrosse team, she was a two-time All-American goalie and in 2013, was inducted into the Susquehanna University Sports Hall of Fame. She currently owns four school records: saves (773), save percentage (.593), lowest goals-against average (8.17) and wins (45), and holds the top three spots in single-season saves and save percentage, finishing her career with a 45-19 record.

After college, Giulia struggled to find something to satiate her competitive appetite. She tried dodgeball, football, and softball leagues; and while they were a ton of fun, she still wasn’t satisfied. She tried to workout in Globo gyms, but something was missing.  In 2011, a friend opened a CrossFit Box and after just one WOD, she was hooked! The love story has continued full speed ahead since then. While she loves training, it is even better for Giulia to coach others and watch CrossFit transform their lives just as it did hers. Her favorite WODs are anything that involve double-unders, hang cleans, hang snatches or pull-ups. Her least favorite WOD is anything that involves running! Outside of Novem, Giulia is COO of Slice Communications in Old City-and if she’s not working or working out, you can find her kicking it around Fishtown with her Frenchie, Polpetta.
